About the founder
Hello! I am the founder, designer and chief of Storybook Quilts. As I explain on the website, I grew up in the country, where telling a story and quilting both were valued arts. Many were the times that I listened enthralled as my father or an uncle masterfully turned an everyday event into a suspenseful tale. As for the quilts, my grandmother helped me make my first piece of patchwork at age 3 — a pin cushion I still treasure.
My life since has been spent primarily in cities, in the US and Europe, in various positions in the health care industry. I headed a policy strategy group based in Europe, for example, that was dedicated to improving the environment for health care worldwide and ensuring patients’ access to care. I still do some editing and writing on those very important issues.
In a sense, my life has come full circle. I again live in the country, although not on a farm this time, and stories and quilts once again are a central focus. My mission at Storybook Quilts is to put my storytelling and quilting talents to use to encourage the closeness of family and the development of children’s imaginations. These story-and-quilt pairings can help create and further enrich the bonds that are formed when an adult reads to a child — whether that be a grandmother, a mother, an aunt or uncle, a cousin, or a close family friend. The happy and warm memories that thus become part of both the story and the quilt will be accessible always.
