Feb 2nd:
This story is
not writing itself!  In fact, it refuses to get much beyond the first paragraph and a few
vague ideas about action.  The quilt itself is moving along faster.
The shape has been created and the red fabric
selected.  In this photo, the cut-out is being
positioned on the background.
Here, squares are being cut from fabric that may be
used, although much experimenting is anticipated.
Feb 4th: The pieces are up on the design board in this
photo. Fabric for four of the squares already has been
replaced; I am not happy with some shown here and know
more replacements will be made.  I still am not quite sure
how some of these will fit into a story, but look forward to
the inspiration that I know will come!

The next step is to explore other fabrics and keep
changing the selection until it all fits--in the quilt and in a
story.
Feb 8th: A trip to the Amish fabric shops found additional fabrics. Now I am testing fabrics for
"sashing"--the strips that hold the squares together.  The board is covered with a possible
fabric--here, a blue and a red confetti--and the squares laid on top of it to judge effect.  Photos are
taken of all the fabric options and used to think about what works best. Some of the squares still are
included only on a trial basis and may be replaced before actual sewing begins.

The story also is beginning to take shape, inspired partly by the new fabrics and partly by the
customer who already has purchased this SQ package.

March 14th: After other work, finally
am back to this and have decided on
the red sashing and the final fabric
layout.  The story is percolating--I
think I have it and will write the first
draft shortly.
March 28: It is starting to become a quilt rather than just a lot of cut pieces!
The last piece of sashing is being
sewn on.
The "sandwich"--backing, batting
and top--is being basted together.
The quilt is in a hoop so that I can
hand quilt around the car shape.
April 10: The Storybook Quilt has been sent out to David for his 5th birthday.
This is an abbreviated story of the creation of the Vroom Vroom Storybook Quilt.
